John Cusak Fight Scene

was surprisingly good. one of the more realistic fight scenes i've witnessed in a movie. i'm glad they didn't shy away from the violence either. good stuff

Yup, I enjoyed it too. I'd be curious to know how many times they had to shoot the scene. It was probably pretty exhausting.

Funnily enough, I just watched it on blu ray (which despite poor reviews, looks gorgeous) and yes it was exhausting. When the fight first starts everyone looks fresh, then as soon as it cuts to the closeups of their faces, they both l exhausted and sweaty as if they had been doing it all day.

It's a bit of a continuity error, yes the fight would make them sweaty, but not that fast.

reply

yes it would. they are both highly trained assassins a fight between them would be no longer than a min and both would be exhausted thats a fact

reply

Oh yes, the fight would exhaust them (adrenaline spike and come down) and would only last a moment (because they are both so highly trained, they aren't going to waste time).

However, I do think the sweat comes on a bit too fast. It takes a moment for sweat glands to kick in, to pour down their face etc. Next time you jog or do any sort of physical activity, just take note of how long it takes from feeling the first beads of sweat, to your face being covered in it.

On the Blu Ray they go from dry in the wide shot to soaked in the closeup. However there is no intermediate step.

Thanks for the pen.

Watched this last night for the comedic elements, and was very surprised at how - there's no other word for it - cool Cusack was in the fight scene. He had the same sang-froid that Joseph Gordon-Levitt displays in Inception. I remarked to my wife that it is one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen. I loved the the leg sweep, and the face claw conveyed eloquently that he was trying to wrap that fight up RIGHT NOW.

Everything about this scene looked like it was done for the first time - and I mean that in a damn good way. Their fighting skills looked legit, unrehearsed, and the scene just felt more realistic than a lot of fight scenes in martial arts movies (or movies in general). Very impressive scene.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

One of the best ever, second only to Alex and his drooges kicking the s**t out of Billy Boy and his gang in A Clockwork Orange.

Absolutely love this fight scene. Mirror in the Bathroom playing in the background and a very real life-and-death fight punctuating the lofty film. Superb.

reply

Agree that was pretty badass.
