Also, what if he got beaten up or worse shot when he was introducing himself door to door, how was he sure this wasn't going to happen or that if he scared those neighbors off?

If someone knocked on my door claiming to be a sex offender, especially if its a man and someone creepy looking, I would lock all my doors, call the police and cower and hide until they arrive to sort it out, I don't know if I can calmly accept looking at him like that and yeah, although I occasionally questioned such stuff, but if he was a thief, I may not be as scared.

People actually have to do this, and it's still a crime to assault someone, even a registered sex offender, so I can't imagine most people shooting or beating someone who knocked on the door in the middle of the day.

Well it may indeed be but point also how worried are they for their safety?

P.S. He wasn't even any kind of sex offender in real life. But did you know that in the film "Gummo" (1997) when Harmony Korine and crew was shooting it, they were chased away from certain locations there by people with shotguns who suspected them of making child pornography.
