Best legal show ever on TV

Hands down

Pre-James Spader, the best ones were the ones that had James Whitmore in them. He defined acting. Utterly mind-blowing. I can't think of anything he's ever been in that he didn't raise to excellence by his presence. I had to laugh at Dylan McDermott in one episode, trying to equal Whitmore's performance and just looking hollow by comparison.

And a person can learn a lot about the legal profession from this series. Of course, it's a great way to learn to despise lawyers. I could only be a prosecutor. I don't have the stomach to be a defense attorney.

There is an assumption on your part that the state and the police are always correct. You're basically saying defendants are guilty until proven innocent. No, many citizens are wrongly accused and everyone deserves a vigorous defense.

That being said, even the guilty need a defense.

Even in this show, lawyers can hate themselves for putting rape victims on trial so that people they KNOW are serial rapists go free. Drug dealers built the firm despite the damage they do to people's lives. At one point a drug dealer confronted Bobby with how he'd been kind enough to launder the dealer's money for him, making him an accomplice to his crimes.

I don't think the state and police are ALWAYS right, but most of the time on this show -- and we're talking about this show -- these perps are the dealers, rapists, and murderers they're charged with being. And often the lawyers in the practice have to ask themselves if they're really so different from the people they're defending.

Me, I'd prefer to fight for the real victims.
