Why Hollywood Won't Cast Sarah Michelle Gellar Anymore

http://www.looper.com/25763/hollywood-wont-cast-sarah-michelle-gellar-anymore/

Sarah Michelle Gellar was on a roll in the late ’90s, but lately her career seems to have sputtered out. She was once in command of both the big and small screens, but nowadays her most consistent work seems to be within the world of TV animation voice-overs. Why has she had so much trouble maintaining the spotlight?

Yeah she "retired" but apparently begged to be on The cRAZY Ones with a huge star like RW, which by all things looked like a hit on paper and her chance at a career turnaround... still I won't knock her! At least she gave it a go and pursued a role she really wanted - that's terrific imo!

It's a strange one fore sure though. I know she was never part of Joss' clique with the Shakespeare readings and stuff - but then neither was DB, CC or SG... yet no rumours of them being horrible to work with. I know Alyson & James did attended them and well look what happened in the later seasons - Evil Willow was a huge arc for Hannigan and a much more meaty part for her character/acting then the cutesy relationship stuff with Tara. Similar with James, Spike had well and truly worn out his welcome with Joss as he was supposed to die in S2 after 5 episodes... being a hit with fans & attending the parties and readings the writers gave Spike a much larger role in the overall storylines. He was the writers pet.

Seems quite unfair to judge SMG just because she refused or declined to participate in the casts after-hours activities. She has bloopers on Youtube where they show a fun and vibrant actress, having the time of her life and enjoying her job. None of those were put on the shows reels. I also know about the whole leaving party deal... that was a low blow. Waiting until the star of the show, who gave 7 years of her life to the character and in the early days made the show the hit it was... go away home before the party starts & she gets no thanks or anything... Not as bad a Hiegal or Hatcher but still a bitch slap none the less.

Maybe that's the real reason there's never any chance at a BUFFY MOVIE. Reuniting the cast and crew could be disastrous in todays social media obsessed world. Would be endless rumours of the fallouts etc. if the project was to bomb or just no reach fan expectations. PR speak is a powerful thing and no-one wants to believe that Willow and Buffy weren't beasties off set.
Like the characters on FRIENDS, if anyone even mentions them having a spat or fallout people rush to say : "Nope nope - Jen/Cort/Lisa/Matt/Ross & Perry were friends for the whole thing... the whole show - ya hear!!"

Also how many actors kissed Joss' ass to get higher up on the show was ridiculous... pandering to his huge ego and continued 'god' persona was probably even more insufferable for those who didn't. Glad his popularity dwindles every-time he opens his gob... poor Charisma.

I like to hope that if she was indeed a diva on Buffy, she's mellowed out with age and can get on with everyone. It's nice Robin Williams had such lovely things to say about her and she about him, they were awesome in interviews together :'(

2017 will be Buffy's 20th Anniversary - maybe they'll do a panel for it and hopefully everyone can be there and be friends <3

No denying tho, Nick B, Emma C & the director guy weren't happy she attended the 2008 panel... just so weird watching that and knowing they probably had to keep shtume about her antics way back when... *cringe!*

And that makeup artist clip *CRINGE II*

I heard that Sarah Michelle Gellar was pretty snobbish on set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The only cast member she really got along with while the show was filming was Michelle Trachtenberg, and I heard that she and Alyson Hannigan never got along at all, despite playing best friends in the show. It's funny though, because she's clearly mellowed out in her adult years now and has posted more than a few friendly photos with fellow actors from the show including Alyson Hannigan. She seems a lot more appreciative of her time on the show now than she used to while she was actually in the role.

I heard it was that SMG wanted to keep home and work separate so she didn't go out and socialise with the crew whereas everyone else was very close and were good friends. I think it was just that Sarah was very 'work is work' and very business like rather than using it as an opportunity to socialise. IDK.

Well it probably stems from her early career where she got heavily shunned by castmates while on All My Children especially after she won a daytime emmy. Apparently Susan Lucci was incensed that she won and made her life a living hell and got all the cast members to be in on it too.
Likewise she was actually as a child BANNED from McDonalds of all things in a lawsuit by them for an ad she did for Burger King which was the first by a competitor to call out the competition in name. They purposely went after her, a *beep* 4 year old, out of spite. So from a very young age she probably developed this shield between her private off camera life and her on camera life. Even today you notice that despite the two of them still working, Geller and her husband are VERY private off camera.

Most of it's BS as well.

Maybe she's content with the work she did over the years, plus she's probably making pretty good money from the Residuals checks from her movies being re-aired, and Buffy royalties. Show is still quite popular on Hulu.

Oh, and of course robot chicken probably pays her decently too.

Because she is not a versatile actress. She could play Buffy, but that was a once in a lifetime role. She was good in Scooby-Doo, but that was not a serious role.

1. The industry Just saw her as Buffy (Which was a shame because she was great in Cruel Intentions)
2. Bad Film Choices (Like Scooby Doo)
3. She wanted the family life (I think she's even taken time off, I haven't watched anything since Ringer)
4. Buffy kept her grounded, I think she had to pass on some movie roles because of her schedule
5. She was only 19 at the start of the show and 25 or 26 when it ended, she was still very young but some actors have a hard time bouncing back when they find early success, Look at Jennifer Love and Neve Campbell
6. She was a TV star, it's never easy moving on to movies and vice versa with movie stars. Very Few have done it

How come Sarah Michelle Gellar was so amazing in Buffy the Vampire Slayer but is rather mediocre pretty much everywhere else?

https://www.quora.com/How-come-Sarah-Michelle-Gellar-was-so-amazing-in-Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-but-is-rather-mediocre-pretty-much-everywhere-else/answer/Jon-Mixon-1

Because at her core, Gellar has always been a television actor, not a film nor a stage thespian.

She came up through the ranks on television shows (specifically soap operas) which aren’t known for generating skilled actors like a RADA or a LAMDA. She was able to perform her earlier roles and then she won the audition for Buffy The Vampire Slayer. While she made films during her hiatuses, none of them (except Cruel Intentions) strained her skill sets. Gellar was glad that she was able to get work and so she really didn’t perform the theater and indie film work that might have made her a better actor.

Why she was so amazing in Buffy was that the show was written well and she was able to liven up her performances to meet the needs of the script. When the show had a bad script, however, you’ll notice that Gellar’s acting dropped off accordingly. She was never able to become consistent in “upping her game” and that’s why her post-Buffy career has been a wash and why she’s been largely “retired” since 2013.

Since she’s now 43, wealthy, and has a family, acting is likely not as important to her as it was which also means that she likely not “working on her craft” to get better.

The title is wrong!
Hollywood didn*t drop her!
She did what a lot of people do when they raise a family.
She wanted to have time for her family!
