Fear or Scream? Which one do you like more.

Yes, I know both films are completely different from each other, one being a pure horror/slasher film and the other being more thriller, however, they have a few things in common:

- both released same year
- suspense element
- high school/teen atmosphere
- and most importantly, psychotic boyfriends.

For those who have seen both I'm curious to see which one is more liked. This isn't a comparison, just a random 'which one do you like more" question.

Fear definitely because unlike Scream I get hooked whenever I watch it, with Scream once was enough

Scream is one of my favorite movies of all time. But I really like Fear, too. It's trashy but a lot of fun. I think it's interesting to compare both movies, because I saw them in the theater when they came out, and I remember thinking at the time that they were both horror/thriller/slasher R rated movies that appeal to the youth demographic. Fear also came out in spring of 1996, right around the same time as The Craft. Both were sort of a pre-cursor to the teen/horror explosion that Scream would launch later that year. But I think Fear is probably closer to the high-concept yuppie slasher film formula launched by Fatal Attraction back in the late 80's, which spilled over into the 90's with Pacific Heights, Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Single White Female, Unlawful Entry.

Interestingly, Scream almost also starred Reese Witherspoon. She was offered or considered for the role of Sidney Prescott, that ultimately went to Neve Campbell. I wonder if she turned it down because she'd already acted in a dark film with her role in Fear.

she would have been cool in that too.

Both are awful when viewed in present day. 90s movies are so corny.

Scream. It catches the zeitgeist a bit more accurately in teen conversations etc.

Fear has its moments, the ending is pretty good and the gang of degenerates are well depicted.

I can't believe this is a serious question. Scream is a trillion times better.
