Why did Ben direct and not play Steven?

We would have been perfect.

Ikr? Love this movie.. but i'm definitely not a fan of Matthew Broderick, though.

I don’t know but I love his performance as the twin brother killer subplot bit. When he’s fake crying during the 911 call, “I think he was asian….,” that was hilarious!

The story behind this movie is pretty bizarre. The whole thing was cluster F.

Steven is portrayed as uncool, non-threatening, and easily pushed around by others. I think Broderick does a better job providing this contrast to Carrey's character than Stiller would have.

It can seem a bit vain as well when you direct a film and also cast yourself as a lead, also added workload on top of everything else. Broderick is perfect in this he plays a mean spirited loser to perfection just like in Election, It's Ferris Beuler i don't buy him as a cool rogue
