The Iron Man series admittedly gets better come the second season. By this point, they dropped the outdated, formulaic storytelling of Tony Stark and his team, Force Works always fighting the Mandarin and his flunkies. Plus, the storytelling and writing got way more mature and yes like an '80s style, glorified toy ad.
The only thing about Season 2 that didn't age too well in my mind, is Tony Stark's mullet. I get that they were trying to go "edgier" and show audiences that not all heroes are clean-cut looking. But Tony looking back, looks kind of "trailer trashy" and like a "good guy" version of Captain Hook.
