Nomi's Reactions

when she's flustered or pissed off, her go-to reaction is to run away, pushing through innocent bystanders, or banging on random people's vehicles.

Besides being insanely over-the-top and hilarious, I couldn't help but think that Nomi has an 8-year-old's general mentality: throws fits when angered or doesn't get her way, and then runs away, arms flailing.

I noticed that too and couldn't help but laugh. But honestly, I think this is Elizabeth's acting. She is the same way in Saved By the Bell.

Verhoeven has been very clear that it was HIS choices for the character. Not EB's fault at all.

reply

For real, it makes her profoundly unsympathetic. When she tossed the food that Molly bought her over the table simply because Molly was asking her questions, I thought Molly must be the most charitable person on the planet. I would have just raised my eyebrows, said, "oohhhhkaaaay" and taken off.

reply

I thought so too. What an ungrateful b word. Molly put up with a lot from her for sure!

reply

"b word" ? Any adults around here?

Not supposed to curse on imdb... <shrug>

I thought her best reaction was in the beginning when she met the chick that would become her friend and roommate. Nomi was still enraged about her suitcase being stolen and the black chick just bought them burgers, fries and drinks. Nomi proceeds to grab a straw and slams it into the soda top and then grabs the ketchup bottle shaking it up and down violently with it splattering all over. Then she takes the fries and is grinding them repeatedly in the ketchup pile. So hilariously dramatic.

I'm watching this movie again after about 10 years and omg her reactions are laughable. She's constantly overreacting to the most smallest things. It's so bad it's laughable. She flipped out on the guy who told her she looked like "Pollyana". She's pushing people, slamming food, slamming stuff like a child. She kept slamming her head down on the car like an 8yr old. I thought she'd get a concussion.

reply

Some how, she even over acted eating a hamburger.

reply

I don't think in all my years of watching movies since the 80's have I ever seen an actor overeat a hamburger but here we are. Cringeworthy

reply

"She flipped out on the guy who told her she looked like "Pollyana". "

Well, her real name was Polly or something. She thought she had been found out at that point

I like how she gets upset over simple questions.

Molly: Where are you from?
Nomi: Back East.
Molly: From where back East?
Nomi: DIFFERENT PLACES!

reply

oh crap, reading this thread made me want to watch the movie again 😁

Jake, My Jake!

yes

This is one of my favorite bad movies to watch, but her violent reactions in so many of the scenes is really annoying. And yes, she's always running!
Every time she over reacts, I cringe and feel like I need to take a deep breath. I wish they had toned down her angry reactions. Would be easier to rewatch.

reply

Everything is overacted by her, the way she dances the way she gives a lap dance and the way she has sex in the pool.

Agree. The part where she meets her future friend was poorly done. I’m not sure if it’s Elizabeth Berkeley’s acting, or the script / lines. But when someone does something nice for you, then you don’t go shouting “Different places!” to answer a normal question, or start slamming your food and drink on the table. Right away, Nomi came across as unlikeable.

reply

Molly should've repossessed the hamburger & fries from that ungrateful jackass and said, "No Burger for you" like the soup nazi on Seinfeld!
