Demi Moore -- may be today's joke but she did an outstanding acting job

I loved almost every aspect of this movie, from the John Barry score, to the scenery, to the hunky Oldman, and -- surprisingly -- to very good acting by Demi Moore! Funny, I guess once you get labeled as a lightweight, there's no overcoming it (Tom Cruise to some degree has had the same fate though some of his earlier acting -- Born on the 4th of July, Rain Man -- was fantastic).

But Demi Moore's acting here was, I thought, incredible -- maybe even slightly more so that Oldman's and I love Oldman.

This movie is dreadful. If you've read the book by Hawthorne, you'll see how much they trashed the original source material by reducing it to the level of a supermarket fanfiction romance.

Demi Moore is good in movies like Ghost and A Few Good Men -- but not in this movie, where she has a really phony British accent and takes masturbatory baths and has over-the-top speeches where she acts more like an enlightened 20th century feminist than a 17th century Puritan.

Demi Moore - The Scarlett Letter - her participation made her look dumb and uneducated. like sub average-education level.

Just re-watched it last night first time since it came out. It's an ok film if taken as separate to the source material but I agree she does not behave like a puritan woman. Then when her husband turns up we see that he is not like her either and it calls everything into doubt.

Her acting here is better than it was given credit for, I think.
