How the LAPD got word of the heist ... (Spoilers)

Did Waingro track down Trejo at his house and get the heist time/info from him? Otherwise, how did Rollins' character know when he called it in?

reply

Yes.
Waingro, was a C.I. (confidential informant). He tracked down Trejo, beat him nearly to death to get the heist time, and then informed L.A.P.D.

reply

Maybe you are right. I always thought it was the character played by Henry Rollins. He worked for VanSant ...not sure of the spelling... One of his crew got the info from Trejo, maybe even Henry himself.

Been a while since I watched it, maybe you are right.

There is a deleted scene showing Waingro and some other thugs at Trejo's house when Trejo returns there after calling Neil on the pay phone to tell the crew that he can't make the heist.

Waingro held Trejo's wife hostage in order to get Trejo to withdraw from the heist and give Waingro the info on where and when the score would be, which he then passed along to van Zant who in turn passed in on to Henry Rollin's characacter. Or perhaps Waingro called and told Rollins directly.

reply

Ok, that's interesting. Is the connection between waingro and van sant established in the film?

reply

Yes, when Waingro first goes to van Zant in the latter's office and and suggests they help each other take down Neil's crew.

Weren't you paying attention?

reply

As stated in the comment you replied to - "Been a while since I watched it".
In case you are unsure of what that indicates, it means people who have seen it more recently will remember it better than I. Get it?

reply

Duly noted.

reply

Henry Rollins character was the C.I.

That's why Hanna and Casels go to his place after the heist/shootout and ask him where he got his info from.

Waingro told Rollins about the heist after extracting it from Trejo.

reply

Yes that sounds right.... thinking about it, Waingro was way too crazy to be a C.I.

reply

it's not entirely clear how Waingro tracked Trejo down, and it's some co-incidence that he did so on the morning of the big heist.
Oh well, he did explain to Van Zant that there were a couple of moves he could make here. And he knew another big heist was imminent because Neil hadn't yet come after Van Zant, meaning he must be busy with something else.
