Why didn't Elton think Tai was good enough for him?

She was just as pretty as Cher, Why didn't he give Tai a chance?

reply

Interesting theory pop

reply

Excuse me? WTF is your problem? Stop calling me pop and stop harassing me.

reply

WEll Pop, it's because she in fact wasn't as pretty as cher and she didn't come from a wealthy family

reply

Pop, Cher was high class and from money. Elton cared more about that it seemed to me. Also, the fact she wouldn't date any high school guys may have made him want her even more.

reply

I would strongly disagree. Cher was FAR better looking. I don't know any straight men who thought Tai was even close to Cher in the looks department. Brittany Murphy was actually pretty, but they, purposefully, did not make her look good in this.

And Cher was a social Queen Bee, and rich and well connected, , while Tai was probably thought of as Cher's tag-along, if she was thought of at all.

That's one of the few things that didn't really translate from the Austen book to modern LA, Elton/Mr. Elton's social ambition. In the 19th century book the character scorned Miss Smith for an heiress because he was keen to Marry Up, there's no real equivalent for that kind of ambition among 1990s high school kids. So Elton was just a snob.

reply

Elton was a snob and a half. Duh.
