A film should be made about Apollo 17

I presume I'm in the company of many others who share my passion for the moon race as well as the dissatisfaction and dare I say anger, that NASA never continued after Cernan's mission.
But for those who know as much as I about all the Apollo spaceflights, can we not agree that the December 1972 voyage to our nearest celestial neighbor was little short of epic(a word I use very sparingly)?

Perhaps it could be done as a miniseries, enabling the narrative to breathe and evince the simultaneously triumphant and poignant atmosphere which no doubt hung over the planning, execution, and aftermath of the last of the lunar sojourns?

Chris Hemsworth as Gene Cernan
Johnny Galecki as Ron Evans
Louis Cancelmi as Jack Schmidt

A little late to this game but.....I totally agree. I would definitely love to see a movie about this mission. I was actually a bit put off that the final episode of From the Earth to the Moon was a split story of the mission and the making of Melies movie.

I never saw or heard much from Ron Evans, but I could listen to Cernan and Schmidt talk all day about NASA and their experiences.

I wish they made one about Apollo 16 focusing on John Young, Ken Mattingly and Charlie Duke and Sinise could reprise his role.

15 was cooler.

Is that the one where they played golf or was that 14?

reply

No that was Apollo Fore.

15 was cooler.
Have you read Alfred Worden's memoir?

reply

I have not.

But I concur that an Apollo 15 flick would be cool.

Colin Farrell as Dave Scott

Lee Pace as Alfred Worden

Colin Hanks as Jim Irwin

I would say that Sinise is too old now. Except that with digital de-aging technology, that oughtn't be insurmountable.
The guy that played flight controller John Aaron in this movie would be good as Young.
Tom Hardy would be my pick to play Charlie Duke.

I was going to make some snarky comment about Sinise being so old it would only work if he were playing the old man at the end of '2001', but if you look at photos of him now, apart from the white hair he's aged amazingly well. Not a lot of de-aging would be needed.
