this movie is very dated

i watched half this movie now, and obvious things aside this is dated. like when the company comes to douglas and says he is being accused of sexual harassment and he says that its the other way around. its pretty laughable that both guys are like ' omg i never heard of a woman sexually harassing a man' .

Angel : In 243 years I've loved exactly one person.

"Sexual harassment" itself was a relatively new concept. It was first described by Cornell University activists in about 1975, but it was about as widely known or accepted as "cisgendered" is now. It wasn't until 1991, when U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas was accused of sexual harassment by Anita Hill, that it got into mainstream consciousness.

So in 1994, it was literally JUST accepted that sexual harassment actually existed and was inappropriate when directed at women. (Remember that character riding the ferry who bemoaned "We used to have fun with the girls. Now she probably wants your job"). The idea that men could be sexually harassed to would be a whole new fight.

Hell, the laws of that time targeting domestic abuse, like the "Violence Against Women Act", were written to refer to women only because it was hard for the people framing those laws to imagine a man being the victim of domestic violence from a female perp.

Wow, evolution is a gas

I thought this was gonna be about the scene where Michael Douglas hacks the company with a virtual reality headset like he's in Ready Player One. Seriously, what the hell was up with that?

reply

Ha, the whole vr thing felt very out of place, right?

reply

Particularly the avatar of Demi Moore sneaking up behind him. Seriously, how come no one remembers this whole segment? It'd be like if Fifty Shades of Grey was interrupted by Gamer for ten minutes. Might improve that movie actually.

reply

its dated because its unthinkable to prooduce in woke hollywood

It has only gotten far worse. Today NO ONE, and I mean absolutely NO ONE, but Catherine Alvarez and possibly his wife who would give him the benefit of doubt would believe him. Garvin and Blackburn would have immediately fired him instead of giving him a deadline between transferring somewhere else or quitting.

Do you expect all movies to be current 20 years after they're released?

reply

I thought the same thought watching Gone With The Wind.
