Where to start

Is season 1 a good place to start or is there a majority favorite season?

I've only seen a few medical shows, House, Greys Anatomy, The Good Doctor.

Is ER the most realistic medical show?

reply

I don't know if it's the most realistic, but it might be the best. I would start with season 1.

ER makes Grey’s, New Amsterdam, and really...all medical shows that came after ER look silly in comparison. It’s still the best by far. Season 1 takes a few episodes to get its legs under it...and then it will really draw you in. Season 1-8 are fantastic. After that, the show still has moments of brilliance...just not as many. Certain key characters start to drop off, etc. But stay with it! Some key characters re-emerge at surprising times....and, you gotta see how things wrap up, in terms of one key character in particular, that the show ends up revolving around. That person’s story arc over all 15 seasons is quite compelling. Also, a side note: ER has some amazing guest stints by some very big actors (the story arc with Alan Alda is my favorite). You’ll also see some actors who were not known at the time, and maybe just played a bit role like a patient, and later became huge stars. Ariel Winter, Shia LaBeuff, etc, etc... ER (and NYPD Blue)...are still 2 of the best TV dramas of all time. P.S. One of the biggest and best payoffs for staying with ER during the slight drop off middle seasons...one word: Romano.
