Senior Years

How many senior years did he have???

reply

Two. Senior year of high school depicted at the start of film. And a Senior year of college where he suited up for ND.

Why? Is there some confusion on your part?

reply

Not at all. A confusion on the film's part and, apparently, your part (perhaps remove the blindfold?).

Rudy complains, while he's at the junior college, that his senior year is coming up and Notre Dame won't take senior transfers. At least one more semester passes before he's finally accepted to ND. He then plays on the practice squad for several seasons before complaining his senior year is coming up and that will be the last opportunity to prove to his dad that he's on the team. The coach agrees he'll let Rudy dress the next season. A new coach arrives for the next season (we assume, FINALLY, is Rudy's senior year) and the team has to convince the new coach to let Rudy dress.

Next time you think you have a snappy answer to a question, think it through before you post and save yourself the trouble of having to wash egg off your face.

PS -- You're welcome!

I found this:

"Using his GI Bill benefits, he enrolled in Indiana's Holy Cross College in 1972 and then at the University of Notre Dame in 1974, playing in the Orange Bowl in 1975 and the Gator Bowl in 1976 -- the year he graduated."

So it sounds like he went as a junior in 1974 and then as a senior for two years, but that is real life and not necessarily shown in the film.

Ruby was in his Junior year at Holy Cross. As stated, Notre Dame did not accept senior transfers, so this was Rudy's last chance to get in. He was accepted and immediately tried out for the football team. He spent that season on the practice squad under coach Ara Parseghian. Prior to his senior year Dan Devine took over as coach. Rudy remained on the practice squad all year until the last game.

So there you go. Two seasons playing for Notre Dame, 1 senior year. Hope this cleared up any confusion.

What Sandman said.

Didn't think it was that hard to understand.

Here's a towel for those eggs.🧻

Go watch the movie again. Nobody vindicated you.

I don't need to be vindicated. This is your issue, not mine. Pretty straightforward. It's not my fault you can't figure it out

There are two semesters in a school year, so if Rudy said it was his Junior year in the Fall, it's probably still his Junior year in the Spring. For most students, that would be the case, but classifications (Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior) have to do with how many credit hours a student has taken, not how many years they've been in school.

However, I'm pretty sure it was actually Rudy's sophomore year, as he only spent two years at Holy Cross. He also spent two years at Notre Dame, so that was most likely his Junior and Senior year.

It's been years since I saw the movie, but I remember the conversation you're reffering to.
