Oscar nomination for music

I thought to myself watching the second half of the movie that the music was particularly awful and didn't fit the action at all. Another drawback to the movie, I thought to myself... why would they choose this kind of music...
Then, after watching, I saw it was at some point nominated for Oscar. Anyone else hated the music?

Sorry, I enjoyed it

Also the novelty was cool: Grusin used only the piano for the entire score

Completely agree with you. The music annoyed the heck out of me. The theme played over and over and didn't match what was happening on the screen

I laughed at the nomination. The track "Mud Island" is a complete and shameless ripoff of John William's "Conspirators" track for JFK, two years earlier.

(incidentally, John Williams ripped off this track in '93, as well, for his Jurassic Park score. "Dennis Steals the Embryo")

Are you on crack dude?
1- the music is awesome in this film, is an integral part of it in setting the tone of the movie, and it's quite rememberable.

2- oscars are shit, being nominated for one, if anything, detracts from the awesomeness of this soundtrack.

Ya, I was cracking jokes about the over t he top piano playing during the whole movie.
"...and now ima gonna play fast and loud hear cause the suspense is a buildin up - ya feeling me?"

Wrong, it has a great piano score. Loved the ‘happy families’ music with his wife, the light jazz stuff and then the deep notes of the thriller-ey music toward the end. A much deserved Oscar-nom-nom-nom!
