Why so dark and shadowy on the rink?


There are a few bright spots like they have a couple spotlights, but then the rest of the ice is really dark. I would say it's almost like they snuck in to practice there, but then they've got a referee skating around with pinstripes on and everything.

Cause the lights ar eon a timer. Have you ever played minor de hockey?

But this lighting issue was still there even in games, when they had a crowd cheering them on, and referees skating around the ice with the players.

Dramatic effect. It makes no sense in reality, but it looks good onscreen.

Same reason we see a lot of wet streets at night.

The bright lights created too much of a glare on the ice, and it made it harder to follow the puck. Turning down the lights made it look better on film.
