We finally figured it out

A lot of people wonder how Kevin could have racked up $967 on room service at the Plaza Hotel, and all they show on the bill handed to Buzz (which is very long and covers at least 5 pages) is the ice cream he ordered.

My dad, and brother, and I were all watching this again a few nights ago, and realized how the bill could have gotten so high.

1.) It always costs more to have the hotel staff deliver stuff to your room personally. It's the same rule that, say, a takeout food service follows: it's more expensive to have someone come to your house and deliver the food to your door, rather than go get it yourself from the restaurant it was cooked in.

2.) Kevin was staying at a very expensive hotel, (which is still expensive today, and is still around in the present era). Everything, including room service, is pricey; which is why only the rich stay there.

3.) It appears he was staying there for a maximum of three days, maybe two. Kid's gotta eat, and I doubt he was always eating ice cream. So it's possible he ordered food for other meals as well, such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and had them all delivered to his room. No doubt the food was made with expensive ingredients in the kitchens of the hotel, or ordered from restaurants outside the hotel.

4.) Not to mention he had his clothing laundered, dry-cleaned, and brought back to his room. I mean, Kevin only had his carry-on bag, his dad's bag, and the clothes on his back when he came to New York City, and obviously the kid believes in personal hygiene, so he had to have his clothes cleaned at some point.

5.) The room he was in had a cabinet full of snacks and booze, and if the Plaza Hotel follows the same rules many hotels do, they charge you for anything you take out of cabinets like that. Kevin obviously knew to stay away from the booze, but he took a bunch of cookies with him, which were probably included in the bill.

So the bill might have been covering the other food and laundry service that we only got hints about.

who cares, because i refuse to watch home alone 2,

i watch home alone 1 only.

reply

Why? It's a good movie.

reply

because i refuse to watch home alone 2 because it's too sad for me that hillary wolf/ megan quit acting all together following her appearance in this movie.

and it's too sad for me that angela goethals/ linnie from home alone 1 is absent in this movie.

so there you go for why i watch home alone 1 only and

i have no regrets about refusing to watch home alone 2.

reply

No more drugs for you.

reply

If you didn't care, why did you comment?

reply

because i wanted to let my hate for home alone 2 be known.

reply

Hey, if you hate "Elf" as well, we could have fun discussing why we loathe and despise it on a new thread :D

reply

no i like home alone 1 so much but,

i hate home alone 2 so much though.

reply

I would make Tim Curry pay for everything to avoid a lawsuit from the family for the trouble he caused Kevin

reply

I have no doubt Kevin's parents brought up the poor handling of confronting Kevin about the stolen credit card later on when complaining about the bill, but sooner or later, someone has to pay it.

Plus, that scene was a callback to the first film when Buzz yelled, "Kevin! What did you do to my room?!"

reply

I actually just watched this for the first time a week ago. If you start looking at all the impossibilities in Home Alone 2 you're going to be on it for a long time. I only watched it because I had just watched Home Alone for the 2nd time, and wanted to see what 2 was all about.

reply

I bet that is an interesting experience watching a famous popular for the first time far from when it first came out

reply

ONE THAT I AM FOREIGN TO...AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE FOR SURE.
