Why do many people don't like this movie?

Well, I know the movie is very violent and has macabre scenes but I don't understand why the movie is so underrated and many people say is one of the worst movies ever made. I know it is not as good as the first movie but I think this is a good movie with good actors and a good sqcuence.

The motion effects were maybe the worst part of the movie lol

I enjoyed it as much as part one, 2 is slightly my favorite, although it's not a better overall film.

IMO, Robocop 2 is one of those sequels that will get unfair criticism, not always because of how bad it is, but because of how it's a sequel to a movie people are so attached to. Even people that made the movie are often vague when discussing their dislike for it. I've seen criticims about Robocop 2 having too much violence, action, comedy, and Robocop showing too much or not enough personality, the first film gets praised for those things. 3 lacked those qualities. Some say that Robocop 2 tries to hard to be the like first, others say that it's not like the first one enough. It is flawed and some gripes are understandable since the first one left off with reasonable expectations. Robocop 2 had good continuation, still portrayed Lewis as one of the more skilled and dedicated officers, had numerous clever lines and references to Robocop's humanity. The commercials throughout part 2 were more enjoyable to me than the ones in 1 and 3. The music didn't bother me, it suited the film well, probably more than the original theme would have. My only gripe was one of Cain's top henchman being absent without explanation.

The story with his wife being dropped didn't bother me. It created sympathy for his wife (it's one of the saddest moments in the series for me), while also showing that OCP made him neglect her and his own humanity. Early in the movie he was hesitant in doing so, afterwards he made numerous references to his humanity.

There was too much to focus on the characters. Robocop & Lewis had extra obligations since the other cops were on strike, they had to deal with Cain, the villains had to be focused on, there's also the issues among OCP and the mayor. Wanting more characterization is understandable, I thought the film did well considering there was so much to cover.

Robocop's directives being erased had a purpose. It became personal between him and Cain so he didn't have to take it easy on him or follow rules when apprehending him. Also, he didn't have tolerate OCP or his superiors as much.

Agreed that Dr. Faxx wanting to use Cain's brain sounds silly. Her motives still made some sense. Numerous other prototypes with the brains of former officers had failed. Cain could be controlled because of his addiction to nuke. Robocop even used that to his advantage. Also, she probably wanted someone with limited values. That came in handy when they had Cain attack Hob's crew and the people with the mayor. All 3 films continued using ED-209 after the malfunctions they had.

It was always easy for me to believe Hob being a top guy in Cain's gang because I grew up in a neighborhood with teenagers like that, and kids that acted bigger than they were. I agree with another poster that it's becoming common these days. Hob taking over and controlling Angie after Cain was gone was a stretch though.

Reboot, restart or re-imagining is another word for remake

Watching the movie its apparent how campy it is. I mean a child druglord? Plus, the musical score comes across as light and whimsical at times whereas in the original you felt a certain dramatic weight. On top of this you can see how the plot just mimicked the first while failing to take the story anywhere different.

I don't get why people bad mouth the score. The choir chanting "robocop" over the main theme itself is silly yes, but I love the music during each individual scene especially the robocain scenes, the chase etc.

I agree with another poster that says people who criticize this film are often vague. While I agree story-wise it isn't as solid as the first movie, I still enjoy it. I like Robocop 1 and 2 about the same, but for slightly different reasons.

I think the movie was aimed at a younger audience with the use of that kid, the scenes in the amusement arcade, the kids babseball team and I think they marketed it to a younger crowd. Problem was that it was hyper violent: bad guy holding a machine gun to the head of a baby, torture scene that went on fior about 5 minutes, brain and spine of Cain getting pulled out and the finale of the movie is a giant drug addicted robot shooting people for about half an hour. It's a mess.

It's a absolutely awful film, I'm amazed it has a 5.5 on here.

For the mindless action crowd i suppose it's fine, but the problem is that
the original Robocop is NOT a mindless action film.

My post on a RC2 vs. 3 thread on the Robocop 3 board sums up my opinion of RC2:

Robocop 2 was ugly instead of funny. Robo's Adam West like reprogramming of his manners was about all I laughed at. Good stop motion too. Cain was boring, uncharismatic and mean with no humor. When Clearance killed some one it was funny as hell! Cain just listlessly snaps that girls neck? BORING!!! Bodicker (sp?) was badass (Heath who?) and was actually funny. The kid crime boss was really damnable. Seriously, how is that any better than the kid genius in RC3? Atleast she wasn't a reprehensible character for kids to mistakenly identify with. (Yet when he dies we're supposed to feel sorry for him! Bullsh*t!)

I liked it,but hated the kid villian and the sequence where Robocop is reprogrammed.

I liked this movie a lot.

I think many people who watched this were disturbed to see a kid die, so they give it a low rating.

Seeing him die was the reason I give it 4 instead of 3.. Just saying.
