In the beginning in the arcade scene then later all the kids that were stealing from the eletronics shop and also the ones who were playing with the hydrant i know he was acting like an idiot and all but come on its Robocop .... not to mention Hob
They all hate Robocop . Why ? I know this film wasn't made for kids but come on ......Why make all the kids hate the main hero ?
That movie treated kids as kids really are. In a city with so much human garbage running the show, the children would reflect that. The kids would be wild, undisciplined, selfish, cruel, and barbaric. South Park does the same thing. It doesn't treat kids as inherently innocent or angelic. It treats kids as kids really are. Kids need to be shaped by society to turn out right. In Robocop 2 Detroit was portrayed as a place devoid of civilization. The portrayal of the children was spot on in that regard.
But it is kind of inconsistent with the original where the kids loved Robocop and in the news interview they were excitedly jumping all around him with wonderment.
Plus what the hell was it with the LITTLE LEAGUE COACH leading the gang of kids who were supposed to be his team into robbing that store? That is the OPPOSITE of what he is supposed to do he is supposed to be a ROLE MODEL, I could not get past that, its classic "contributing to the delinquency of a minor". How the hell does a sleazbag like that get a job being a sports coach?
Maybe the school he appeared at was in a better off community with better living conditions in the first film but in the sequel he was in the slummier more impoverished areas?
But it is kind of inconsistent with the original where the kids loved Robocop and in the news interview they were excitedly jumping all around him with wonderment.
Not inconsistent, other kids can hate RoboCop because their mothers teach them to hate cops.
I quite liked the Little League kid who says "It's Robo!" and "He's fucked up!", as he was the same kid who played young Eddie Kaspbrak in the IT miniseries, and Eddie was always my favourite character there.
