“An aristocrat”

This line always cracks me up when the guy in prison order his steak medium rare.

But what’s it mean?

Perhaps it’s because aristocrats were wealthy and powerful so they got the best meat and could afford to eat it medium rare.

Aristocrats are wealthy and perhaps they like to gamble?

The entire scene is one of the best in the movie.

I think maybe he was joking like the guy was sort of "putting on airs". Trying to act sophisticated.

I always think of this scene when I order my steak medium rare.

He associates eating meat rare as a very uppity way of enjoying food so yeah he's just breaking balls in a polite way.

Yeah. I like that scene. Though to this day I have never had lobster since it's expensive and if I don't like it, it's a waste of a lot of money.

I love, love, love this simple line - spoken off camera! I use this line (and try to say it just like the actor in Goodfellas) all the time with my son. Anytime he orders something at a restaurant or asks me to cook him something that sounds a little more sophisticated than a kid his age might like, I say, "Oh, an aristocrat!"
