Why do people hate part II so much?

I don't get why this film gets so much hate.

reply

Because it follows a lot of the same beats as Ghostbusters 1.

Its not a bad film by any means...its quite enjoyable AND the it has a feel good ending.

But its hard to deny its a carbon copy of the first one.

The theme of the first one is underdogs overcoming the odds, coming through for the city. In GBII, the city essentially comes through for them by being more positive. It's things like that that save it from just being a carbon copy to me. It's a companion to the first film.

I didn't even KNOW it got hate. It's a better-than-typical sequel and has plenty of good moments.

The sewer scene and the baby scene at the beginning are my favorites of the ghostbusters films, some scenes were not too good but not bad either !!

Last Movies: - Cell(2016): 7/10
- Waterworld(95): 9/10
- Heat(95):10/10

I don't get it. I think it's great, funny dialog, good action, scary moments. It's more Ghostbusters with all the same characters. Yes, it is similar to the first one. It's a sequel, so it cant be avoided.

What annoys me is that Egon did not end up with Janine and New York just forgetting what the Ghostbusters did for them.

I just rewatched them again after seeing them as a kid. The special effects have definitely not aged well but they're very neat and it's cheesy to the extreme. That being said, it's a very fun film, great dialogue. For some reason the film just works, and in my opinion that's an extraordinary feat because it's just so damn goofy. It's the Roger Rabbit of ghost films. It also feels a bit like half a film because it skips over things you'd like to see and ends too soon. The sequel feels like Ghost Busters 1.5 to me rather than 2.

But the second film has the better acting, and feels much more organized. It starts off really well. Then again there is this unnecessary distance between Murray and Weaver that slows the film down as they try to rekindle their relationship that we were sorta hoping to enjoy from the start. It gets too much of a rom-com feel and slows down the scenes the boys have together. The effects are also still just as bad as ever but less forgiving this time around because more is expected I think.

...But it's not about that really, it's about entertainment, and the first film had the freshness and the second one aged itself with a baby so...it gets the hate. I still think they probably did as well as they could with the second film. The team essentially starts from scratch and has to save the city like before. A 6.5 score seems too low for it for sure.

Anyway it's a miracle they even got away with making a comedy movie about busting ghosts. But they pulled it off somehow. If it were done today (and if it were any good) it would have to be either a horror film or a parody. I think it would work on that cult movie level of success. It could definitely work as a Pixar film.

If I had made 2

Egon would have ended up with Janine

The team would have spent time training slimmer (which also would set up for animated series!)

Danna and Louis have to deal with having mated....which they did in the first film. Well, he would be the biological father if they DID have to show a baby

I would have xed out the whole yanosh/statue of liberty thing. Had Egon instead try and juggle ghostbusting, dating and pitching in with paranormal rearing of slimmer
