What if the 1990 Flash TV series was apart of the same universe as Batman (1989)?

Had the 1990 "Flash" TV series w/ John Wesley Shipp had lasted beyond one season, could you have seen it expand to include the 1989 Batman universe?

I am well aware that in one episode, they play it off that the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton movie was just that a movie. Basically Barry Allen is walking out of a movie theater that was showing a double feature of the 1978 Superman movie w/ Christopher Reeve and the 1989 Batman movie. And in another episode, Barry mentions Lois Lane in the context of her only being a fictional character.

I bring this up because CBS was clearly influenced by the massive success of "Batman" when they put "The Flash" on the air. They even went as far as to recruit Danny Elfman to do the main theme tune. And plus the color hues and lighten and the way that Flash's suit was designed was clearly inspired by "Batman".

I saw a fan theory that claimed the original Batman movies, the Flash TV show, and the original Superman movies were in the same universe. I guess they didn't remember this episode.

I would LOVE to hear more details about that theory!

Unless the guy was serious about it, of course.

reply

It wasn't one guy, I don't think. Someone who used to hang out on the old IMDb boards had a link to the theory of all the Earths that connected the CW shows with the DC movies and the old DC shows and movies. They have hinted at the Smallvilleverse and the original Flash TVverse in the recent shows, so there is something there.

That sounds seriously gaga! And more trouble to read through than it's worth!

As to the theory of interconnecting universes, I can absolutely guarantee that the TV/movie writers didn't intend to build such an complicated background into their stories. TV and movie writers can barely be arsed to keep any continuity with previous episodes or film series, the last thing they want is to make their own jobs harder by trying to fit things into a larger universe.

Earth 5 – Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter), Batman (Michael Keaton), The Flash (John Wesley Shipp), Swamp Thing (the 1982’s film version). Note: this is a more serious and faithful-to-the-comics continuity. I did not include Superman because Donner’s Kal-El is supposed to debut in a world which never saw superheroes before. On Earth 5, Diana introduced herself to the world in 1942.

"A part," not "apart."

"Apart" means separate, so they are already "apart."
