Did Kim Basinger recycle one of her outfits from "9 1/2 Weeks" for "Batman"

I noticed that this particular black dress looks awfully similar to the one that she wore in the "Do you wanna get nuts!?" scene in Vicki Vale's apartment three years later:

Could be. They are very similar.

I consider that to be Kim Basinger's Robert Palmer back-up model inspired look. Because she quite literally looks like the models in Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video. She also wore a similar type of black dress in My Stepmother is An Alien.

It seems unlikely. Films of that size and budget have costume designers so the idea that Mrs. Basinger took the dress from 9 1/2 weeks, kept it for 3 years and then showed up to the set of Batman, saying i wanna wear this dress wouldn’t happen.

More likely is that the custom designer saw shots of KB in that dress, liked how she looked and thought it was appropriate for Batman, and got a similar dress or even called the custom designer for 9 1/2 weeks to find out who made it or to see if the dress was still in the studios inventory as costumes are reused or remade for other movies

I know that actors occasionally “forget” to return certain items they wear for filming, but I would be surprised if they brought some of their own clothes from home to wear on-set.

Actors usually do not supply their own wardrobe in a movie with that kind of a budget. Really, aren’t most LBDs the same?

reply

Not the same dress, the neckline is different. But they might as well be the same, every woman in the civilized world has a"little black dress" and they all look pretty much the same.

I once had a book on film history that showed how the old movie studios re-used costumes. The author actually took the time to scrounge through a bazillion pictures, and printed pictures of two actresses wearing the same dress. I don't know if modern studios still do that, you'd think they would

It’s just a simple black velour long sleeve dress which you probably get at most good stores such as Macy’s or Nordstroms. You could also check e-bay myself I would look a thrift stores or consignment shops I am sure some one has it. Plus you could always check the credits and see who the costumer designer was and get into touch with them.

I don't understand your post.

Are you trying to collect movie costumes, like Basinger's dress? Are you interested in whether modern movie studios re-use costumes? Or are you trying to get yourself a dress just like it?

I can't recommend the last, the big shoulders on Basinger's dresses make them look out of date.

reply

Of course it's virtually impossible and downright expensive to collect the actual movie costume. My point is how can we find anything out there online that's remotely similar. Also, what material were said dresses or outfits made from in the first place to better classify them.
