Best version? (Jack Carter vs Jack The Ripper)

Best cast? (Caine! Collins! Seymour! Assante!)

Best look/reproduction of 1888 London?

Best ending? (Caine unleashing some full on Jack Carter rage on Jack the bleedin' Ripper! "You Bastard!" You genuinely think Caine is going to kill The Ripper!)

Best choice of Ripper (Sir William Gull - later used for Alan Moores 'From Hell' and the stylish Tim Burton-esque movie, I had no idea it was done before but then I'm not really a Ripper connoisseur)

It was definitely a great cast. I haven't seen it for donkey's years but I remember how good it was to see Lewis Collins back on TV. He was a hero of mine during The Professionals, then he did the movie Who Dares Wins. After that he pretty much disappeared, other than three (I think) of whatever the 'jungle mercenary' equivalent is of the spaghetti western. Nice that they gave him a trademark Collins fight scene (in a pub IIRC). Sadly, of course, he died a few years ago.

Edit: Wow, 2013 he died. Doesn't seem like ten years. 😢

Like many say he'd have made a great 007 (after Moore finished say if hed retired after FYEO or Octopussy) but sadly Broccoli considered him to 'aggressive' in the screen test (allegedly)

Yes, I've heard that. Real shame.
