Pinhead is soft

I've seen TONS of clips of this series over the years. Think I even saw 3 or 4 all the way through when it used to run on cable. I've always liked the mythology and imagery around this series and it's villains, but having the 2nd one on in the background last night, I felt the same way as I did when I finally saw the first one (from start-to-finish) about 3-4 years ago: Pinhead is a bitch.

Kristy beats him by solving the puzzle and just kind of pointing at him. I thought the movie was totally atmospheric, engrossing, and enjoyable. But that ending really ruined it for me. Then the 2nd movie comes along and he loses easily AGAIN?! In the 3rd, he practically walks into the puzzle knife. Epic failure! He's the poster boy for the franchise, has he ever won a fight?!

I enjoyed the first two films in the franchise, but I agree, the ending of the first film just withered and limped across the finish line. I suppose the decision was made to not cram exposition into the film to explain how Kirsty can twiddle with a box and vanquish the bad guys, but it sure would have helped.

I've been wanting to give the movie another shot, because I did enjoy it up until the ending, but I catch parts of part 2 on Pluto last night and like....does this guy ever win?!

How much exposition do you need? The story establishes visually that manipulating the box in a certain way (i.e. solving its puzzle) summons the cenobites. It follows that doing the same in reverse sends them away. Frank figured out how to summon them, Kirsty figured out how to banish them.

What are you after, a scientific technical explanation of exactly how the supernatural magic box works?

reply

A "scientific" explanation for how the "supernatural" works?

No, I would never request anything that illogical.

reply

Good, you're not as dumb as you sound, then. So what exactly do you want?

reply

Frank and Julia are the main villains in the first film. Chennard and Julia the second

The cenobites are bound to the box and the rules that come with it.

The second one it can be argued and I wish they would have went a different route with Chennard and the Cenobites

The third one Pinhead was his full evil self but his cenobites were lame.

The fourth is ok just to learn about the box and Le Merchand

I actually like 5&6

Deader and Hellworld are trash

The last two even worse

"Frank and Julia are the main villains in the first film. Chennard and Julia the second"

Come on. Pinhead is the face of the entire franchise. Christ, he's the focal point of EVERY POSTER, the most popular character, and the only one in every movie. And he gets slapped like he's new at this.

FROM BEHIND?

reply

Leviathan agrees with you. That's why it tried to replace him with Chennard in Hellbound.
