The most boring Halloween movie

I always liked this movie growing up though not as much as the first two or 5 and 6 (producer’s cut), but watching it again recently it seems to be the most bland of the series. The cinematography is pretty dull and cheap compared to the others (looks like a cop show instead of a movie) and the pacing feels too “made-for-tv” with several moments seeming like they would be good transitions to commercial break. Michael does not really seem as scary in this film as the others; the mask isn’t intimidating and the killings are more like those in a action movie than frightening. I still enjoy the film and love Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasance’s performances, but it just seems boring compared to the others.

I dissagree. I liked how they built Rachel and Jamie's characters. Michael has a good body count. Theres a decent character arc for Rachel as she starts as an immature teenager who really becomes a protector and adult by the end.

I just rewatched #5 and I couldn't stand it because it was missing a solid character/protagonist. Jamie is relegated to the background for most of the movie. Loomis is a creep. Tina is unbearable and doesn't grow as a character. Michael is okay... but not interesting. In the end, I disliked it more.

But hey, to each his own.

Yeah, 5 is annoying with Tina and the clown cops but everything after Tina gets killed is some of the best of the series; Loomis’ “rage” speech, the laundry shoot scene, the police station explosions and shootout.

5 does have some good scenes. Tina may be annoying, but she's hot at least. Looked damn good in her Halloween outfit.

Watched it once again this evening and I agree, especially in regards to the cinematography. At times it looks like 'if 90s Lifetime movies shot a Halloween sequel' level bad. Just cheap and made for TV.

I quite enjoyed this in the past, it just hasn't aged very well. The best parts are the eerie intro and anything with Danielle.

Yes, I forgot to mention how tone-setting the intro is and creates the perfect midwest autumn Halloween atmosphere.
