Can I skip Bride and Seed of Chucky?

I've only ever watched the first three, and I watched them again over the last couple of days. Never seen Bride or Seed but heard that they're pretty much comedies. I was thinking of buying Curse on Blu-Ray but I didn't want to skip ahead unless I need to see the others.

Yeah, you need to see both Bride and Seed to understand one of the final scenes of the movie where a certain character appears. (Bride for who and Seed for why she looks the way she does).

Both are more dark comedy, but Bride is actually pretty good and runs with the material. It manages to combine horror and comedy pretty well. Seed, however, suffers from a low budget and an odd script.

They aren't anywhere near scary. No matter how sensitive a person is I doubt they could possibly be afraid of either film. However both are lots of fun at least and are so crazy you can't help but like them.

Bride is one of my favs and Seed is by far the worst, but has its moments. But watching both is necessary to fully understand Curse, which is also really good.

I think I've seen the Bride of Chucky once and quit quickly. I only like the first 3.

reply

Idiot, Bride was a genius comedy.

reply

Not much of a horror reporter are you? What idiot about watching only the first 3? The first three are horror the rest are comedy. I only watch the first three around Halloween time.

As others have said, the only thing you need from Bride and Seed is to know one character. But, you can connect the dots on why she's important through simply watching that scene.

I liked all the films but you can skip those two if you don't want the temporary shift in tone from horror to horror/comedy.

Bride isn't bad, I think it's highly entertaining. Seed isn't bad either...it's worse than bad.

I would just get them all if you consider yourself a fan and want to watch Curse. They're completely different types of movies, but they're not bad once you appreciate them for what they are. Bride of Chucky is a dark comedy and Seed of Chucky is a deliberately campy, garbage meta-movie in the vein of John Waters (though not as good as his films). The latter isn't that good, but I wouldn't say it's of straight-to-video quality either. Sadly ironic that Curse was straight to video.

Seed of Chucky is a downright Comedy. Even Don Mancini, the series' creator himself, has said so and doesn't consider that film to be a Horror movie.

If you treat it as a stand-alone movie (which is pretty hard to do) then it's gold, but as a sequel to this terrifying original movie - it's an huge step backwards.
