There should have been a franchise!

this movie series should definitely have continued..

alas, in the 1980's, if you were a black actor and you weren't Eddie Murphy or Richard Pryor, you weren't considered A-list..

Action jackson had a black action hero who wasn't mainly a comedian (ala Eddie's characters), and hey (at the end of the movie, at least), he actually got some love-action onscreen (again, as opposed to Eddie's chaste 'romances' with his lady interests).. I say this not to bash Eddie, whose films I still go see, but in the 80's, Hollywood did a real flip-flop when it comes to supporting black action movies.. after the 70's era, the black cultural element was gone, it was now all about the "fish out of water" scenario of most of Eddie's starring vehicles...

Yeah, Stallone had ROCKY & RAMBO. Carl Weathers could have had ACTION JACKSON & to a point, ROCKY 1-4.

This classic needs a Special Edition DVD right now, its a cult action movie.

If they ever did an update, remake, or reimagining I wouldnt see it. Updates and remakes are not creative nor interesting. The original actors put in the time and money to make the movie happen and that is enough. Plus, I'd never see a movie with modern day pop stars in it. I will nver see a movie with beyonce, common, puff daddy, 50 cent, Britney, Jessica Simpson, or anybodies sister or brother becuase I dont like them as people.

I agree 100%. Weathers had great charisma - ala Arnold.

A few more movies OR even a TV series would have worked.

Although he would never be confused with Henry Fonda, Lawrence Olivier or Sydney Potier, I always liked Carl Weathers as an actor. He was absolutely at his best as Apollo Creed, but he also owned 'Action Jackson".

Yeah they REALLY SHOULD bring this back somehow cause it would be COOL to see him back in a NEW WAY!

Nah, they'll likely cast some horrible rapper in the role of Jackson, or a completely vapid no-name diversity hire. Since it's nu-Hollywood, they'll put in a bunch of ugly, charisma-vacuum SAG-AFTRA "diversity" members as the supporting cast with a typical white male who is a racist villain who's probably a secret Nazi or something. It would be extra woke with a cherry on top.

The only way a remake/reboot would work is if they cast Omari Hardwick (he's the only fit black actor I can think of other than Terry Crews that actually comes across as a hard-a$$ tough guy that can actually ACT and has charisma. The film would also have to be completely straight-laced without trying to wink and nudge its way into the audience's conscious, something akin to John Wick, but with a badass inner city cop fighting some kind of upper-echelon organized crime unit.

Roger Ebert was talking out of his ass, Weathers has and had plenty of charisma.

I never knew that the Germans thought Hurricane Smith was Action Jackson 2, that's hilarious!
