It was decent enough.
Like most of the Dave shows, it's watchable without being Red Dwarf at it's best.
It was as close to its best as its ever going to get.
Its never gonna be a "new fresh idea that the novelty hasnt worn off yet" again.
For me, the peak was between either season 3 or season 4 and season 6. So, it's not really about it being new or a novelty.
But at the same time, I kind of get what you mean. They are repeating their ideas a lot.
I liked bringing the Cloister worshiping cats in though. That seemed like an obvious story-line to have done decades ago, really.
I think it went off the boil on series 8 , was that when it came back after a large gap?
1 to 7 all had their good and great episodes.
Psirens in 7 , Quarantine , the cowboy one , The Rimmers mind one.
Confidence and Paranoia. In fact all of series 1 & 2. I liked the drab colours and sense of loneliness and isolation
Psirens, Rimmerworld and Gunmen of the Apocalypse (the cowboy one) were in Series 6. I think that's the one you're thinking of.
Quarantine was in series 4.
I tried to enjoy it. It started out with promise but became tired quickly... that thing with Rimmer's extension was only half as funny as they thought
Like all their recent episodes they were just repeating stuff they've done before much better (but hey at least they got through a whole episode without meeting Hitler and Marylin Monroe yet again,.. and dancing with Hitler... and or whatever.. *snooze*
I liked it. It was cruising pretty hard on nostalgia. But this is kind of how I imagined all these guys ending up. Certainly not a story heavy episode, this was mostly just about character moments. If this is the last Red Dwarf they ever make, it's a pretty solid sendoff. There was nothing offensive or annoying and it was funny if not hilarious. The band is back together, status quo restored.
