THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK vs THE CRAFT

I liked both movies.

My favorite witches were Susan Sarandon as Jane and Rachel True as Rochelle.

The Witches of Eastwick is a sexually-charged ensemble dark comedy whereas The Craft is a teenage drama about outcast vengeance. They definitely have their similarities, but are generationally and thematically different.

Each film is well made, achieves its prime objectives, and succeeds at reaching its respective audiences. Both explore ritual witchcraft and accent the inherent vulnerability of the female pariah in a male-dominated society.

Eastwick is a hilarious spoof on Christianity aimed at adults, and is easily the better written of the two, thanks in large part to John Updike's source material. The Craft is a tragic morality tale that manages to be hip while responsibly confronting the consequences of the corruption of power.

So which is better? It depends on your mood, age, and sense of humor. The Witches of Eastwick and The Craft are both fun and thrilling movie experiences that I would recommend to anyone with even a modest interest in witchcraft. At the same time, neither should be taken too seriously. Other posts in this forum are proof of that.

I'm a fan of both. They are both favorites of mine for different reasons.

I honestly found The Craft a complete bore. It was a very generic, cookie cutter story with mostly bland performances to boot. Should've been called The Crap in my book.

The Witches of Eastwick does suffer from a rushed climax that favors special effects and spectacle over any sort of plot cohesion, but the film as a whole is very funny and imaginative. Even if some of it really doesn't make sense.

I prefer this.
The Craft just seemed like your typical Teen Horror Flick, and not even that original. Might as well double Bill it with Satan's School For Girls.

WITCHES OF EASTWICK IS THE BETTER FILM...BUT THE CRAFT IS MY PREFERRED FILM.🙂

Eastwick, hands down. The Craft is a teen movie. Eastwick is much deeper.
