Is this the greatest montage sequence ever filmed?

During the preliminaries, while the Sammy Hagar track "Winner Takes It All" is playing. You get a magnificent look at all the contestants, including various psyche-out tactics, muscle flexing, and a general overdose of machismo. Not even any of the Rocky movies featured a montage as fantastic as Over The Top, although Rocky IV tried very hard!

The only montage that I can compare it to, and possibly top this one is the opening rounds of the All Valley Karate Championships in The Karate Kid 1984.

It all works so well with the rock music chosen for the segment.

agrees, it would not be same without that great song. sammy hagar is god. sly knew how to choose great soundtrack to go with the great actions scene in his film.

Yep, love this scene and love the movie, surprising how many people have never heard of it....their loss.

Stallone is the king of montages.

Rocky IV has one of the all time greats when they’re training and Stallone runs to the top of the Gran Tetons in the middle of Russia. The shot when he crumples up Dragos picture while looking into the mirror.

Epic.
