Turned it off after 20 minutes

Blue Velvet is probably one of the most hyped up films I've heard about in the past 30 years, and Roger Ebert was right when he awarded it only 1 (one) and a 1/2 stars. The film is directed by David Lynch, one of those "experimental helmsman"- and I think I'll be skipping Mulholland Dr. (2001) now. Blue Velvet opens incredibly strong (first 5 minutes) - then tanks.

Kyle MacLachlan (Sex and the City, 2000-2004) plays a handsome teenager who comes to the hospital after his father suffers a stroke. On his way home, he walks by a field and discovers a dismembered ear. He picks it up and takes it to a detective. Then the movie starts getting Boring.

After this, Laura Dern shows up (looking older then a teenager by the way). The two form an attraction. There's a lot of delayed build up, and suddenly MacLachlan is in a creepy apartment. Some woman into sexual abuse is there, and then Dennis Hopper shows up. I was expecting so much from his performance, since apparently this was the role he should have been nominated for at the Academy Awards. But they correctly chose Hoosiers (1986) instead. He comes off perverted and dumb. Not much else going on.

The rest of the film didn't make any sense and we realized this wasn't narrative storytelling.
