Like the old imdb make me believe it.

He wasn't written that way, but he was performed that way deliberately.

The screenwriter admitted that the character was struggling with coming to terms with it. That was a not so subtle subtext.

That's dumb. He ran from the girl cause he realized Freddy was about to make him kill her.
