Reboot and make it a Trilogy

Bruce Campbell is the Peter Vincent Character

reply

I'd prefer David Hyde Pierce from Frasier as Peter Vincent

has he done a lot of cheesy horror?

reply

No, but I think he's not unlike Roddy McDowell, which works for me.

If they ever did a remake, they wouldn't want to make it such a close copy of the original. Although the 2011 remake wasn't nearly as good as the original, I actually like the way they redrew the Peter Vincent character. It updated it appropriately for the times. The original was made in the 1980s, when everyone grew up with those late night "creature feature" shows on local stations, where a local actor, radio personality, or sometimes former movie or TV star hosted sci-fi and horror B movies made from the 1950s to the 1970s. (Where I grew up in Hampton Roads, the one we had here was called "Dr. Madblood's Movie" and the titular Dr. Madblood was a mad scientist character who [on the show] had a Frankenstein-like tower in the isolated Pungo section of Virginia Beach.) By 2011, when the remake was made, those type of late night horror shows were long gone, having been pushed off the airwaves by infomercials (another sign of the degradation of TV in the modern age), so they really had to give the character a different background -- hence the stage magician persona. The character needed a different personality to go with that change too. It was a good, well thought-out change for the character, though as I said, the movie wasn't remotely as good.

He did vampires kiss, the amazing screw on head, and the perfect host.

I'm against another reboot, but if they cast David Hyde Pierce, I'd be interested.

I enjoyed the remake with David Tennant as Peter Vincent. No need, IMO.
