Why do the villainous soldiers keep calling Miguel "yellow"?

Given that it's often used in close proximity to "spic" (Rickles also says Miguel has a "yellow" penis), I don't think we're talking cowardice. It's a racial slur.

But... isn't "yellow" a slur used against East Asians rather than Hispanics?
