Unrealistic

1. How come the parents don't say anything when they are kissing at the end? Surely, they weren't that liberal in the 80s?

2. How are the kids able to cause so much mayhem in the school and the library, including smoking pot, and nobody finds out or there are no implications of consequences the following week? The teacher was not that dumb. But the way they showed him, he had no clue what was going on.

HIGH SCHOOL IS UNREALISTIC!

A movie about high school is too?
I'll never watch this again, thanks, and I'm never going to high school again either.

Ephemeron.

1. Spot on. Hollywood has been pushing the oversexualization of society for a long time. In real life, especially the '80s, there would have been dads chasing those boys all over the parking lot looking for blood.

2. Artistically they were going for a surreal feeling to the movie as well as a chance to get these kids alone so they'd have to face each other without adult interference. I mean, what kind of school has detention with no adult supervision all day?

what? really ? where do you live ?
These kids re about 17 right?
In Europe it'd be fine.

Very likely in the 80s the Parents of Molly's character would have had a problem with Judd's character even being near her let alone kissing her. They were from different social classes. He would have been seen as trouble.

IN the real world I wonder if Molly's real parents were ok with 26 yo Judd Nelson kissing their teenage daughter :)

haha , yeah when you put it that way ...

I don't know what part of Europe you're from, but in most of the Western world, most dads wouldn't just sit there in their car waiting to pick up their highschool age daughter from detention while she's making out with some unknown boy - especially it being in the '80s.
