Glad the movie did NOT claim the war was about slavery

How could it be when both sides practiced slavery throughout the war.? The Union had 4 slave states of its own - KY MD DE MO.

If they do a remake, you can be sure all the emphasis will be on slavery and the south will be made to look like monsters.

If there is a remake, which it would be for the best if there is not, they will just portray it how the book did. Some of the southern characters were good, some were *beep* Some got away with being *beep* some did not. And characters from the north had their good and bad as well.

Jakes does not come across to me as someone who believed the institution of slavery was a good thing. However, he did not take sides in his book regarding the war. Do I think he tried to make racist characters look like nice people? No, I don't. For example, Justin and Ashton, Justin being one of the ones who paid for his actions, while Ashton never did. Jakes is more prejudiced in allowing his favored family, the Mains, get away with everything while his unfavored family, the LaMottes, all died, but they were both southern.

He also takes more time with his southern characters than his northern, imo.

So, I don't think they will say the south was evil, but I don't think they will say the anti-black people characters were good, unless they don't go by his books. Most of his racist characters were nasty in a whole lot of other ways as well.

Yes because the rebelling states never mentioned slavery as the prime motive for secession at the conventions lol

Let's be honest, politicians always use humanitarian reasons to convince the public to start a war. No doubt geopolitics and economics were really behind this one. Also, I don't think the average Northerner cared that much about the fate of black people in the South. It seemed they were more afraid of the nation falling apart.

Some things are so obvious they don't need to be stated.
