Why do Asian actors/actresses even accept roles like that??

I mean, when he read the script, he could have obviously realized that this was a racist piece. Why did he even accept to do it? Same goes for Asian actresses who accept roles where they are overly sexualized.

Probably because it was the 80s. No one really cared.

People don't care now. They only pretend to care for virtue points.

reply

no, They only pretend to care for attention and to troll

Money or the fact that as an asian actor in Hollywood he unfortunately didn't get that many good parts offered to him, so he took whatever role he could. Of course, as certain people will tell you, the likely reason is in the 80's no one gave a flying f_ck! (I'm sure that would've been far from the truth if the internet and social media were around back then...)

Anyhow, yes the character is a mockery (ooh look at me being all "PC") but he's the life of the party and consequently has a better time than anyone else in the movie.

You want something corny? You got it!

Most characters were over the top. I get why people see an offensive stereotype, but he was really likable and fun. Even when I was younger I never saw the donger as representative of all Asians, but as a nutty character. Now, the host parents (grandparents) were oblivious and held prejudices.

No. Farmer Ted was the real star of the show.

If you don't know the story he walked into the audition and didn't speak a word of English, he was imitating one of his Korean friends. After the audition was over he thanked the casting director in perfect English. He's been quoted as saying he understands why people hate the characters but that he finds himself loving the character at the same time as hating it. It's only racist if you take it that way. How many Asian people have acted how he has or spoke broken English like that character? I've known some so he was acting like I've seen some others act in real life. That doesn't make a portrayal of how someone acts in real life racist.

I agree!!!

Yeah sure, let's make black people act like criminals and live in poor families since there are actual black people who live like that in reality. Oh wait, that's not racist. It's only racist if you take it that way.

That's really easy for you to say cuz you're not part of the group that's being targeted, dumb fvck.

The problem with Hollywood is MAJORITY of the times when they do show Asian men, they make Asian men look like awkward nerds, which is called a stereotype. You're probably going to use that retarded argument "well stereotypes exist for a reason". Yeah, stereotypes exist because narrow minded morons generalize a group of people who they know nothing about. Stereotypes aren't facts. It makes the whole group look dumb, that's why people hate how the Asian guy in this movie was portrayed.

They are also usually intelligent, we'll educated and sucessfull as well. Does that offend you?

reply

we didn't have SJWs and safe spaces and leftist persecution then.

Also, when he auditioned he talked like he does on the movie and they really thought he could not speak english

reply

The Asiam guy??

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

reply

You don't have to be Asian to accept a role that is stereotypical in nature. There are lots of people out there. Be a little more open.

Actors have bills to pay and don't care if you're offended
