shareit's driving me *beep* nuts
like the point of it is pretty obvious from the start
but i have ocd and it's making my brain hell to the point where i can't even pay attention to what's actually on screen
nevermind that it's a *beep* awful grating sound in the first place
It is something that will haunt him forever, hence it is ringing for what seems like forever. Maybe the opium made him relive that.
shareI've always hated when they put phones ringing and ringing in movies and this is the worst example. Answer it already!!
shareWhatever the artistic choice behind this was, it's funny to think about people going crazy because of a film's ringing phone. That story about the old lady another poster mentioned is amusing.
You want something corny? You got it!
I personally HATE the telephone ringing sequence, it goes on for what feels like FOREVER and just gets plain annoying. It actually rings for 3 mins and 10 seconds ... We all get the point after like the first 30 seconds of it ringing, any longer and it only serves to irritate the viewer.

distracting not distraction. It rang 24 times.

I got the point of it and still disliked it. I have personally always hated phones, and to hear one for so long annoyed me to the point of almost losing it. And I don't know if this is funny or not but right after the phone in the movie finally stopped, my house phone here rang, and then about 5 minutes later it rang again.... god I hate phones!
share24 times to be exact. It's the 20th ring that probably drives most people up the wall: DeNiro picks up the receiver and we think, "Finally! No more ringing!," only for there to be four more as he phones the police. Brilliant!
shareI forgot about that. It's been just AGES since I've watched this (top-notch!) film. Leone's use of sound was always stellar.
