Kid in beginning that gets ball from Hobbs

So this movie is all about things that happened in the past and how lives are altered years later by those events. After the three strike bet at beginning of the film, Hobbs is hanging off the train, throws a ball to a kid, and says to remember him. The kid was maybe 7 years old or so, and the scene looks like it takes place in the plains states (or could have). Flash forward 16 years to the final game of the season. Hobbs is at bat, a pitching change is made and a young farm boy from Nebraska is brought in. Was this the same kid, now grown?

I like all the yes, no maybe - because maybe the intent of the director (or writer) was to make us speculate but not really know. Such as when Gus says 'I once made a bet on three pitches'. Roy says How did you make out? Gus says 'I didn't...but the next week, I ruined the guy on a different bet.." (or something like that) were left wondering if Gus was there at the train stop? unlikely but it seems like too much of a coincidence to not speculate.

Right, but then we learn that the woman was crazy and killed herself right after she shot Roy and left the room. Doesn't do and like you're ideal hitman. So who knows...
