Early on in the film Daniels meets up with Allie and her friend at school. When Daniel explains his head injury as a "bike accident", Allie's friend asks Daniel what kind of bike he has. She assumes he has a motor bike or motorcycle.
Daniel's response is "no, it's kind of a Miyagi turbo actually..."
Then Allie laughs at his answer. As if she knew it was a joke.

He pronounces this the same way he pronounces Mr. Miyagi's name early on.
This never made sense to me because at this point in that movie he only had met Mr. Miyagi twice briefly but never even knew his name yet.
I always thought it was a continuity error. Maybe that scene was supposed to come after Daniel officially meets Miyagi and learns his name

You're not supposed to realize that.

I'm not supposed to realize that Mr. Miyagi and Daniel had only met twice briefly and Daniel didn't know his last name yet?
How could I NOT realize that?
All i have to do is just watch the movie.

Yes that line makes no sense at that point in the movie, it has always anoyed me, he should be calling his bike a Miyagi Turbo AFTER Mr. Miyagi repaired it.. Somebody messed up, it should be in the goofs.

Oh wow yes!
You hit it on the head. It's a continuity thing.
But I'm so dopey I never realized why he called it that. It's because Mr. Miyagi repaired his bike!
It's a cute joke but comes at the wrong time in the movie.

I'm watching it as we speak and i just saw that scene a few minutes ago. When he said it's a miyaji turbo i thought to myself he must have fixed his bike already. Then a few minutes later i saw the scene where he had fixed his bike. I was just thinking it was odd that he said miyaji turbo before he even knew his name so i came here to figure out if anyone else thought the same thing and boom...here we are.

Daniel learns Miyagi's name first time when he is saved from the halloween fight. . Yet he is referring to him by name when he is practising with Bonsaitrees

jrd516 is a anal rapist! Beware women!! He is on medications and just between doctors at the moment. He has unfortunetely already reproduced a lot of rapist Children but he is about to get help. He just needs to want the help. His mom is helping him at the moment with all sorts of things. Believe it or not but he is so sick that he actually Thinks that one is mentally ill if you are against rape! I know! But that's how sick he is! He Thinks rape is funny! He has no empathy for rapist victims but Think you are mentally ill if you have empathy for rapist victims!

That's one of the most stupid lines in that movie. Almost as stupid as "Daniel... with an L".

So he has a bicycle, not a motorcycle. Is that something he needs to feel shame about?

I saw The Karate Kid back in 1984 when I was 16 -so I was basically Daniel's age. And I remember thinking it was strange that Daniel was ashamed of having a bicycle because I had one at the time.
But the idea here is that Ali and her friends have lots of $$ and if you're old enough to drive you're not driving a bicycle anymore because your mom and dad just buy you a vehicle. So when Daniel says he has a "bike" the richy kids just assume he must mean a motorcycle.

He could have heard his name offscreen at some point. In any case, for someone watching the movie for the first time, they don't know what Daniel is talking about when he says "Miyagi Turbo," and then when they hear his name for the first time, it's a minor "ah hah" moment, and that was probably intentional.

Yeah, that scene was probably meant to be later, but they decided to move it up for what ever reason. They'd sometimes do that back then.

We never see Miyagi tell Daniel his name before that scene, but who's to say Freddy didn't tell him. I mean surely Daniel related the tale of telling the handyman about the broken faucet to Freddy.
