Christopher Plummer had direct unlimited access to him and this is the best he could come up with? Even if the plan had succeeded, there would have been tons of witnesses to all the killing, shooting, motorcycle chases and overall mayhem that occurred around the lab at the moment the president was brought there for his nap.

shareBlair's plan wasn't complicated at all: He was going to have psychic nutjob Tommy Ray Glatman enter the president's nightmare and assassinate him. No one can 'witness' such a murder (since it takes place in the president's head while sleeping) and no one would be able to prove such a murder since it's so outlandish and, at best, theoretical.
Blair simply didn't anticipate the 'troublemaking' of Alex.
