Should have lied to the Tahitian king

Just saw this for the first time. They should have lied to him and said Bligh died of some illness or accident or something.

I love The Bounty as much as the next person, but please tell us more about how a Hobbit gets syphilis.

If a ship's captain of the Royal Baby had died in mid-ocean, then it would be the first officer's duty to take command and carry on with the mission. And to carry on flogging the crew and using all the ship's fresh water to keep the damn breadfruit plants slice.

The Tahitian King was no dummy, he'd know if that a ship's crew abandoned their mission and asked to stay in Tshiti he'd be in deep doodoo with the British authorities if he agreed. He'd also have known that if he agreed to let one boatload of naval deserters stay, he could expect about a million more deserters to try the same thing. He didn't want a million ex-sailors on his island, importuning all the women and breaking the kapus.

It wouldn't have worked; he knew something was up when he seen them come back and he woulda turned them away regardless. Maybe he woulda been more nicer to some who wanted to stay but not all of them especially Fletcher he woulda ran him off as fast as he could.

Only real chance Fletcher had was to return home and get a ship somehow with a crew and sail back, but easier said than done. They were willing to let him go and allow the girl to raise the kid. He ruined it and ruined their lives; the King crying was very surprisingly heartbreaking.
