If you're on your back arms raised defensively while the other guy punches away at will you lost. When you're helpless on your back tears squirting out of your eyes as you sob hysterically your face covered in blood and snot you got your ass beat.

shareUnfortunately,no. I remember the bully in our high school. People constantly got fed up with his crap and challenged him,and he would beat their ass. He was tough,and ended up in prison,which is best for everyone.
shareI have found the bullies you mention only seem tough because of their attitudes or size. Put them up against someone who knows how to fight and they will back off big time - after the thorough ass-kicking they receive (I know what I'm talking about, whenever the kids in the taekwondo school I go to have been forced to defend themselves they have done so with a literal vengeance).
shareBullies usually do what they do because they have too much self confidence, and enjoy hurting other people. They are generally not cowards, contrary to popular myth. Fighting back is usually what they are attempting to taunt other kids into doing. Doing so plays into their hands, and usually results in the victim getting his ass even more kicked than it would have gotten otherwise. Fighting a bully never results in friendship with a reformed bully who has learned a valuable lesson.
