Shatner thinks Wrath of Khan is "good for another 10 years, maybe 5"

You’ve been touring the country doing sold-out screenings of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” a movie that came out in 1982. Danny Kaye and Cary Grant aside, some of your movies are going to outlast you. Is that comforting?

They’ll be good for another 10 years, maybe five. I’ve made all these films that are popular, so I’m sure they’ll pop up every so often. But I don’t need validation from a film I made in 1982. I get pleasure in talking to you right now.

no Bill, Wrath of Khan will go on forever as THE Star Trek movie..

By far, the best of ST movies. All the elements of a great film came together.

I can't believe they managed to make such a good movie after what a disaster ST: The Motion Picture was. But that was back when the studio execs in Hollywood actually had brains enough to step back, see what went wrong and fix what was broken. They also had faith enough in the material to see the potential in it.

Really? Since when was Star Trek about revenge?

reply

Since it's very origin. In the original series, the episodes "Court Martial," "Arena," "I, Mudd," "Obsession," "The Conscience of the King," "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield," and probably one or two others I'm forgetting all prominently feature someone's desire for revenge as a driver of the plot.

Perhaps you're forgetting, but Gene Roddenberry sold the very concept of Star Trek to NBC as a "wagon train to the stars" type of adventure drama. Revenge has always been a deep well of inspiration for writers of adventure fiction, and Star Trek was no exception.

For some reason, with a show with the word "trek" in the name, I honestly prefer the exploration episodes.

Star Trek is about exploration, not revenge.

reply

Its about the future of humanity

reply

Which, ideally, is NOT about revenge.

reply

If Star Trek is traditionally supposed to be about exploring strange new worlds then why is the film with the revenge story and little exploration considered the best?

I prefer the Kelvin timeline trilogy and First Contact to be honest, blasphemy I know.

reply

You're just a poser, then.
