What was Deckard doing to financially sustain himself after he quit his job/before he was forced to return?

I have always wondered about this - while he is not living like a Vanderbilt, he seems to be in a halfway decent spot, especially seeing as how he is able to have enough booze in his apartment to fill a speakeasy.
Was he just kind of coasting through life and living off of a rainy day fund or was he simply just working another job?

This has always been a headscratcher for me

Living in hiding with an Amish family. That's my guess.

I just assumed that he was a full time run of the mill Detective. As he seemed to be extremely great at that aspect even after he was officially done being a Blade Runner. I imagine in a city like that there would be more than enough people who needed that type of service.

I mean, I can easily picture him working security for one of the companies that existed in the city or something like that.

His life as a 'former' Blade Runner is someone else's memory. He's a Replicant.

I don't think they gave it that much thought. I mean the original theatrical ending has them driving through the lush mountains under clear blue skies. Seriously? After spending the entire movie in a setting where every piece of wildlife has to be artificially created in a lab because of a complete collapse of the ecosystem? Really?

reply

well , lets say , er, fckit:
the lush mountains under clear blue skies were on one of these off-world colonies and theyd decided to retire there.

reply

Oh, I was watching Star Trek? Didn't know.

reply

off world colonies are a big thing in Bladerunner.
The "upper half" of the populace all emigrated there , leaving the poor/ weak /dumb /stubborn / criminal types behind
Thats why the place is such a shit hole and all the buildings are half empty .
