Deckard's final nod....

When Deckard stumbles on his partners origami of the unicorn, he nods, the movie ends.

Does this nod simply mean that he knows his partner was at the apartment and that for the time being he and Rachel are safe from the authorities

or

Does this nod mean more?

That his partners origami works have meaning. The unicorn dream that Deckard had was a implant, and that Deckard's nod was a realization that he himself was a replicant?

It so hard to tell, Deckard has a great poker face.

Earlier releases of the movie did not include the unicorn dream sequence, that made Gaff's origami unicorn outside Deckard's apartment a bit puzzling. With the dream sequence then there's a huge implication that Deckard is a replicant and his nod is him realising this. We get Gaff's voice as well for a reminder: 'Too bad she won't live, but then again, who does?'

I'm thinking so.

A astute business move by the Tyrell corporation would be to provide unique replicant hunter (one that would be unaware of this status) to find rebel replicants. This was used in 2049 version.

Also the viewer is given no family background for Deckard, he appears to have no family, and a loner. The piano scene, we see photos on it the same way photos were used with other replicants. Deckard also seems to have no other purpose in the PD except hunting replicants. A tool that could be called up at will when needed.

This makes the scene featuring Tyrell, Rachel and Deckard most compelling.

Of course in this movie, it is best left unknown or unverified for the viewer.

Gaff IS the only human Blade Runner on the force was my takeaway after watching the remakes with added footage.

He knows all along that Deckard is a skin job, and that Deckard's operating on someone else's memories AND he knows what those memories contain.

He has empathy for Deckard's plight and knows that he and Rachel have an expiration date but won't spoil it for either of them and allows them to escape to Big Bear
