I'm up to S5 and cannot wait for Diane to leave 😩

I did a rewatch earlier this year and then went on to Frasier. Both great sitcoms. I like cheers a bit more. It was very interesting to see how things changed from 1982 to 2004 in the eyes of the characters.....

I'm doing Frasier too as it happens, it's still one of the most entertaining shows imo.
I think Frasier definitely became more snobby as he got older! Back in Boston he used to drink beer and hang out with the guys in the bar!

reply

Haha. Yeah. They kinda touch on that fact a couple of times as the show goes along. Especially when he sees woody again and the gang at cliff "retirement" party.

I'm really looking forward to the new Frasier show. He will be back in Boston and they better do a few Cheers alumni appearances.. 😂

I caught up with that episode a few weeks ago, it was good to see them back together. It's funny how first time around I couldn't stand Carla or Cliff but this time they're probably my favourites.

One gets the feeling that his time at Cheers was a low point in his life and that he eventually corrected course.

I'm in season 6 and glad she's gone. The show was focusing way too much on their incredibly unbelievable relationship. She was far too sophisticated for a tail chasing alcoholic.

reply

That means I don't have to put up with her for much longer! It's just dragging out now, they have just seen John Cleese as a relationship expert and he's told them that they shouldn't be together but she wouldn't listen.

It worked much better when they were not together.

reply

She believed she was sophisticated, and missed no opportunity to tell people about it. Pretentious is what she actually was.

That last season with Diane was difficult to tolerate. The character wasn't always like that but her insistence from episode to episode that her and Sam would marry got so fricken old. At the time of release I felt sad that Diane was gone but in my current rewatch it was a relief, especially knowing that Kirstie Alley's character was such a triumph.

reply

I couldn't imagine another six seasons with Diane and Sam bickering.

reply

Yeah, glad she left. Becky was a such a better character.

CHEERS GETS REBECCA AND WE GET TROOP BEVERLY HILLS...WIN/WIN.
