Not aged at all well

On TV a few days ago. Caine was OK, but Stallone ruined it. The football 'action' was poor.......seen better flowing football on a sunday league pitch.
The casting of the Officers was spot-on........imbeciles!

reply

How can it not have aged well when it's set during WW II ffs ?!?

It's a classic. The end

A remake is also long overdue

reply

Movie is good.
Sly was ok except became a little annoying when he was acting too modern American.

reply

The football bit is highlights and its aged rather well for a 3 decade old film.

Its that man again!!

reply

not usually a fan of remakes, but I wouldn't mind seeing this remade with current players.

reply

Seriously? Who wants the climax of a film to involve 22 men rolling around the ground grabbing their ankles for absolutely no reason?

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

reply

I saw it last night. I thought it aged rather well. I think the one issue that comes up is the escape or not. A post WWII audience would shout "Get back in there and win" while I think a more modern audience would think "escape!"

Sports movies in general are hard to make. Soccer films are hard because the action is on going and it is hard to fake a play.

Though my wife (like me a big soccer fan) said it best the first time she watched the movie -- "I liked it, but why were they playing that game again?"

reply

1940s' macho men would be win the game!
2016 liberal men would be escape period.

reply

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

It has aged very well.

reply

It's a period piece. It shouldn't age at all.

reply

Stallone is out of place in this. But Michael Caine and Max von Sydow were good. The second half has better pacing than the first act. Not a soccer fan but the match was pretty thrilling.

reply

The match itself isn't realistic at all. Don't the Germans go 4-0 up only to lose 5-4 or something? Fucking ridiculous. Oh and Stallone's ego meant he had to save a decisive penalty I think.

Roy of the Rovers stuff out of place in a supposedly serious war film.#

RIP Pele!
